$1.063 MILLION FOR MIDCOAST BUSHFIRE RESILIENCE: WALLABY JOE RFS SHED UPGRADES, FREE HOUSEHOLD FIRE RESPONSE KITS

Wallaby Joe Rural Fire Service will share in $1.063-million of Federal funding to ramp up bushfire resilience across the MidCoast.

The brigade shed at Wingham will be more than doubled in size, to cater for triple the number of volunteers since the 2019-20 bushfires.

SUPPORTING NEW LOCAL FOREST PLANTATIONS

The Federal Coalition Government will invest more than $86 million over five years to support the establishment of new forest plantations to lock-in future wood supply.

The Government will look to partner with the NSW Government to deliver this through a grants program, backing in a key component of the National Forest Industries Plan.

Federal Member for Lyne Dr David Gillespie said that the forestry sector was a huge employer in the region and growing the plantation estate would ensure that continues into the future.

FEDERAL FUNDS DRIVE DUNGOG'S RIDGETOP TRAILS TOURISM

Federal funding of $837,000 will support the showcasing of Dungog’s spectacular ridgetop trails, linking Dungog Common to the iconic Barrington Tops.

Funding has been announced under the Federal Coalition Government’s Black Summer Bushfire Recovery Grants Program to continue to make Dungog Shire an attractive and safe trail-friendly region.

Federal Member for Lyne Dr David Gillespie said the project would allow Ride Dungog to collaborate with the community and key stakeholders on the planning and development of more than 25 km of new trails, directly benefiting the region's tourism and hospitality sector.

FEDERAL $$ FOR HASTINGS' EVACUATION CENTRES

The communities of Rollands Plains, Pappinbarra and Comboyne will benefit from Federal funding to upgrade emergency evacuation centres and build community resilience.

Federal Member for Lyne Dr David Gillespie has announced funding under the Black Summer Bushfire Recovery Grants program to support local communities to continue rebuilding after the 2019-20 bushfires and prepare for any future event.

EARLY CHILDHOOD SUPPORT CENTRE TO ‘NURTURE GENERATIONS OF LOCAL FAMILIES’

Federal funding of $3.2 million has been announced for construction to be completed on a new early childhood support centre for the MidCoast.

Federal Member for Lyne Dr David Gillespie said building work was underway on the First Steps Count Child and Community Centre in Myall Avenue, Taree, with today’s Federal funding commitment now allowing the project to be finished.

“This funding announcement is the result of an outstanding community collaboration and I am very happy to be delivering this news to everyone involved,” Dr Gillespie said.

GILLESPIE ANNOUNCES $5.5-MILLION IN FEDERAL FUNDING FOR TAREE UNIVERSITIES CAMPUS PROJECT

Taree Universities Campus will now have a permanent and much larger home after Lyne MP Dr David Gillespie today announced $5.5-million in Federal funding to secure the former Council Chambers and Administration building in Pulteney Street.

The project is one of 18 local projects to be funded across the electorate worth nearly $14-million under the Federal Coalition Government’s Black Summer Bushfires Fund.

“This is a very big win for our region. Today’s announcement is another important but critical milestone in the development of Taree Universities Campus,” Dr Gillespie said.

FEDERAL FUNDING SUPPORTS DUNGOG LIBRARY DOUBLING IN SIZE, GOING HI-TECH

Federal funding of $330,000 is supporting the most significant refurbishment of Dungog Library in 40 years, almost doubling the size of the existing building.

Plans are currently being finalised for a major transformation of the library, internally and externally, with the project going to tender in coming weeks.

The new build will include development of a large community conferencing space with latest audio-visual technology, to function as a meeting area for council and public events.

Federal funding is delivering the completion of upgraded road and recreation facilities at Bolwarra.

Federal funding of $672,400 has delivered major road reconstruction on Lang Drive at Bolwarra Heights, resulting in a safer and smoother road for users, with better traffic flow.

At Bolwarra Lookout, final stages of a $700,000 redevelopment are now underway, with a new play space to be completed mid-March and a new car park to be completed by the end of April 2022.
