PAVING THE WAY FOR SAFER PEDESTRIAN ACCESS IN THE HASTINGS

Federal funding of $580,000 is paving the way for new public footpaths to improve pedestrian safety and smarten up prominent areas of Beechwood and Camden Haven.

Federal Member for Lyne Dr David Gillespie joined local residents at North Haven on one of the newest stretches of completed paving, part of the 11km Beach to Beach Shared Pathway project linking North Haven to Pilot Beach, supported by the Federal Government.

“This is a 260-metre stretch of brand-new paving near the Camden Haven Surf Lifesaving Club. It’s a prominent area for residents and tourists accessing the beach and surf club facilities,” Dr Gillespie said.

“I’m pleased to see the Federal contribution of $100,000 completes the missing link of footpath along The Parade to the Surf Club, making it safer to access the area and a lot more attractive for the public.

“I will continue to push for further Federal funding to support the Shared Pathway which, once completed, promises a big tourism and jobs boost for the Hastings Camden Haven, and I’ll be working with Port Macquarie Hastings Council to deliver the next stages of the project.”

Dr Gillespie also confirmed work would be completed in coming months on footpath upgrades through the centre of Beechwood.

The Federal Government has committed $480,000 under the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure program to build a new footpath on the northern side of Beechwood Road between Belangry Road and Kittyhawk Place.

“This is another prominent stretch of paving that will improve public safety and smarten up the centre of town,” Dr Gillespie said.

“I look forward to this new section, which will join paving upgrades further west on Beechwood Road, being completed by the middle of the year.”
