MENS SHED GRANTS NOW OPEN
As part of Men’s Health Week, the Australian Government is encouraging Men’s Sheds across to apply for funding as part of the newest round of the National Men’s Shed Development Programme (NDSP).
Men’s Sheds are friendly and inclusive settings where men can meet to work on a project shoulder to shoulder, or just spend time together, to support each other’s mental and physical wellbeing.

PROMOTING CANCER SCREENINGS TO IMPROVE EARLY DETECTION RATES
The Australian Government is increasing its efforts to promote cancer screenings to support and improve outcomes for all Australians, including $9.7 million for a new National Bowel Cancer Screening Program awareness campaign.
The campaign will aim to increase the numbers of Australians taking their free bowel cancer test and will focus on men aged 50 to 59 years, people living in regional and remote Australia, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and individuals from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse communities.

The Australian Government is continuing to support the health of men across the region by providing $2846 to Tea Gardens Hawks Nest Men’s Shed in the latest round of grant funding of the National Shed Development Programme.
Men’s Sheds play a vital role in preventing social isolation and mental health. They offer thousands of men of all ages a safe and friendly environment where they can work on meaningful projects while building strong social connections.

LAUNCH OF MARITIME RESEARCH VESSEL ‘GINAN’
Defence is partnering with Australian companies to strengthen maritime research skills by delivering a new regional Australia-built defence science research vessel.
The boat was constructed by a local Australian boat builder, Steber International, based at Taree.
Dr Gillespie joined Managing Director Alan Steber to inspect the new R/V Ginan, a 12m vessel, which is part of a $1.8 million project to support Defence’s maritime research.

BETTER ROADS FOR WAUCHOPE
The latest round of Fixing Local Roads funding will assist Port Macquarie Hastings Council repairing, patching, maintaining, and sealing local roads.
Under the Round 2 funding council will receive $785,000 for the rehabilitation of Bago Road/Cameron Street, between Timbertops Close and Azalea Street.
Once complete It will mean smoother, safer trips to school, work or even the shops for local residents.

VIDEO: ADJOURNMENT Pacific Highway Overpass
I'd like to take this opportunity to once again call on the New South Wales government to fast-track the design and planning of new interchanges on the Pacific Highway between Port Macquarie and Newcastle. This week I was delighted that the federal government was able to deliver $48 million in this year's federal budget towards the Harrington to Coopernook intersection grade separated interchange, commonly known as a flyover. This project will undoubtedly save lives. Fortunately some of the planning process and the preliminary earthworks have been done on this important project and, therefore, the federal government was able to allocate funding through the budget process to get this project underway.

$354 MILLION TO SUPPORT THE HEALTH AND WELLBEING OF AUSTRALIAS'S WOMEN
The Federal Government is investing $353.9 million over the next four years as part of the 2021-22 Budget to support women’s health, including funding for cervical and breast cancer, endometriosis and reproductive health.
