The Nationals in Government are reactivating live music across Australia, with Wauchope Community Arts sharing in more than $2.5 million, in round two of the Live Music Australia Program.

Federal member for Lyne, Dr David Gillespie joined with Mayor Peta Pinson and Community Arts volunteers to celebrate nearly $14,000 in funding for live music events.

“Louis Armstrong said, “Music is life itself” and it’s time to bring life back to this great music venue”, Dr Gillespie said.

“The funding will support a series of live events showcasing original music from local musicians and Australian touring providing an immediate to the Australian live music industry.”

“The Australian music industry is facing particular pressures in light of the severe impacts of COVID-19. That is why we are pleased to continue to support local venues to increase performance opportunities and showcase Australian talent,” Minister Fletcher said.

“Round two of the program is funding venues in every state and territory, from pubs in the remote outback, to clubs and theatres in major capital cities, assisting them to re-open as restrictions on public gatherings and live music performance are lifted.”

Mayor Peta Pinson said the funding will provide critical support for local live music venue and support local communities to reconnect and economies to re-emerge from the pandemic.

“This funding is recognition of the wonderful work the Wauchope Community Arts Council do in our community; I know there are many people across the region who can’t wait to get back to a gig.”

In August 2020, the Government announced the opening of the Live Music Australia program, which will deliver funding of $5 million annually over four years.

The Australia Music Industry Package will support a wide range of businesses, individuals and bands across the country, from our cities to regional and remote communities, providing crisis support as well as creating opportunities for the development, promotion, celebration and recognition of the enormous talent within Australia’s music sector.
