FUNDING FLOWS TO HARRINGTON COMMUNITY PROJECTS

The Federal Government announced key community infrastructure across MidCoast Council area would be supported as part of a funding boost from the Federal Coalition Government.

Federal Member for Lyne Dr David Gillespie said I’m pleased to announce 2 projects for Harrington under the Bushfire Recovery and Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Initiatives.

HARRINGTON MENS’ SHED

$10,000 for the installation of a dust extraction unit and ducting from Local Roads and Community Infrastructure.

Shed Secretary Neville Wood said that the new equipment will improve dust extraction and fume suppression at the Shed and will lead to an improved working environment for Shed users.

Dr Gillespie said that this was an important investment because of the role Men’s Sheds play in health and well being, providing a place where men can meet socially and utilise their skills or develop new ones benefiting themselves and the Harrington Community.

“The funding for the dust extraction is particularly important to ensure health and safety for the woodworkers at the shed.”

“It is so important that men, and particularly those in retirement, should continue to be able to socialise shoulder to shoulder whilst contributing to community projects..”

HARRINGTON MEMORIAL HALL

$22,500 towards upgrades to the hall, power boards and bathroom facilities.

Dr Gillespie said Community halls are a crucial part of our towns and villages, Harrington hall now houses a library, RSL Memorial and is actively used for community activities and events.

“These are projects that our hall committees have long had a vision to deliver for our community and thanks to the Australian Governments’ $1.4 million Bushfire Recovery Community Halls investment we can now make them a reality.”

Dr Gillespie said these projects will play an important role in improving local infrastructure, creating local jobs and supporting our regions recovery.

Harrington community Hall committee member, Robyn Spek, said the Committee welcomed the funding to help improve a wonderful community asset.

“The management committee has been working hard to maintain and improve the Hall as it is at the centre of our local community and so many group activities.
