HAWKS NEST REFURBISHED COMMUNITY CENTRE NOW OPEN

The long-awaited upgrade to the Hawks Nest Community Centre is now complete

and was opened Friday March 14.

Federal funding of $330,000 was gained through the former Coalition Government under the Community Development Grant Program and the Commonwealth Bushfire Disaster Recovery Fund to deliver the project.

The extensive improvements include more spacious rooms, improved access, upgrades to the building’s technological capacity, and redesigned parking which has created a more modern facility which better suits community needs.

Dr Gillespie said, “the upgrade to the community centre, was delivered through lengthy consultation and the project extensions which includes a multipurpose room with kitchenette facility, a universal accessible toilet and storeroom facility will be available to be used by community and user groups including Meals on Wheels.’’

“Originally opened on December 5, 1970, the old building serviced the community well but with growth of population in the area, this refurbished facility is bright and roomy and will be an asset for the community of Hawks Nest and I was pleased to get the initial funding to bring this project to realisation”, Dr Gillespie said.
