Federal Member for Lyne Dr David Gillespie said working with MidCoast Council we will deliver ‘must do projects’ for the Gloucester Community providing much needed park and recreation upgrades.

“I am pleased to be here today in Gloucester with representatives from Cricket, Twilight Football, Rugby Union and Tri Challenge to announce $250,000 for a new Canteen and storage facilities here at Gloucester Rec Ground.”

“These are important projects the local community identified in our Vision 2030 Plan Survey and I’m delighted the Federal Government has been able to contribute to the revitalisation.”

“Sport plays a major part here in Gloucester bringing the community together and encouraging a healthy and active lifestyle, but it is also a major tourism driver with the Tri Challenge alone bringing 500 people to town,” Dr Gillespie said

The new canteen and storage facility work will provide stimulus to the local economy during construction as part of the recovery from the impacts of the COVID 19 pandemic.

Dr Gillespie said this project has been on the council agenda for many years, it was part of their future program, however with this funding plan are underway with construction due to commence later this year.

Councillor Katheryn Smith said the canteen is well past its used by date, on behalf of the community and all the volunteers we say thank you to David and the Federal Government for their assistance.
