FIG TREES ON THE MANNING PROGRESSES
Federal Member for Lyne Dr David Gillespie will today inspect the recently completed public infrastructure work that will support the construction, Fig Trees on the Manning, and receive a briefing about the next steps for the Manning Valley’s new residential and commercial precinct.
Development of the Fig Trees on the Manning Taree can now proceed following the installation of the traffic lights at the Manning River Drive and Bligh Streets, which was the final piece in the public infrastructure work, required under the precinct’s original planning approval.
The Fig Trees on the Manning precinct will include residential apartments, cafes, restaurants, public recreational areas and a marina on the banks of the Manning River.
The work undertaken to date includes:
Installation of storm and flood water management systems for the whole precinct, including drainage detention works;
Construction of 330 metres of road, linking Pitt and Bligh Streets, including, two under-road culverts for creek water management;
Upgrade of existing road kerbing, guttering and associated works on Pitt and Bligh Streets and Nelson Park;
Provision of traffic lights and lane variation to the existing intersections of Manning River Drive and Bligh, Pioneer and Nelson Streets;
Construction of approximately 200 metres of raised boardwalks to connect to the Marina residential precinct; and
Installation of a pedestrian cycle bridge over Browns Creek;
Dr Gillespie said the $8.5-million in Federal funding provided by the former Coalition Government for the public infrastructure work would unlock more than $500-million in development and create thousands of construction jobs over the coming decade.
“With these works now complete, development proposals can begin to be drawn up, planning approvals secured and the transformation of the site can finally get underway. I’d encourage MidCoast Council to work proactively with the landowners to progress the development of this exciting precinct,” Dr Gillespie said.
“First cab off the rank will be Bushland Health Group’s multi-storey residential apartment project overlooking the beautiful Manning River and nearby parklands taking senior’s retirement living to a whole new level.”
Bushland Health Group’s Special Projects Manager Denis Hawkins said the organisation looks forward to negotiating immediately to allow the construction of the towers to provide the vertical retirement village living.
“There has been extraordinary interest from the community about what we’re looking to build here and we have received many expressions of interest from locals and others wanting an apartment. It’s been hugely popular,” Mr Hawkins said.
“I’d like to take this opportunity to congratulate everyone involved in the Fig Trees project.”
“The community is very excited about this development, and for good reason. It will deliver enormous economic benefits and significantly transform this part of town into a wonderful area for residential living and recreational and commercial activity by the water,” Dr Gillespie added.
