$1.93 MILLION FEDERAL FUNDING FOR TUNCURRY RECREATION, SUSTAINABILITY PROJECTS
The Federal Government has committed $1.93 million for recreation park upgrades and a new sustainability centre at Tuncurry.
Federal Member for Lyne Dr David Gillespie MP joined MidCoast Council Deputy Mayor Clair Pontin and community members to turn the first sod at Tuncurry Water Park, ahead of work to begin in coming weeks on an upgraded amenities block.
Dr Gillespie said the amenities facility was part of an $850,000 Federal Government upgrade of Fazio Park in Tuncurry, which would include a water playground, education cycleway, BBQ & picnic facilities, green space and car parks.
“The Federal Government is investing significant dollars to upgrade public amenities in and around Tuncurry to attract more tourists and tourism-related businesses, to provide safe recreation facilities for families and boost the local economy.”
Dr Gillespie also visited the Tuncurry Waste Management Centre to inspect plans for a new green sustainability centre.
The project will receive $830,000 under the Federal Government’s Bushfire Local Economic Recovery Fund, with MidCoast Council contributing $60,000 of in-kind equipment and other resourcing.
“The new sustainability centre will be located next to the waste management centre’s community garden and will be an additional facility for the operators Resource Recovery Australia to run workshops on bushfire resilience, conservation management, recycling and re-use projects,” Dr Gillespie said.
Dr Gillespie also visited Tuncurry Rock Pool and Smith’s Lake on Friday where public recreation facilities will receive Federal funding for important upgrades:
· Tuncurry Rock Pool - $250,000 Federal funding to replace playground equipment with an all-abilities play area. MidCoast Council will contribute $100,000 to bring the total project cost to $350,000
· Paradise Drive, Smiths Lake recreation park - $68,293 Federal funding under the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program Round 2, to upgrade facilities.
