COOMBA PARK ‘ECSTATIC’ ABOUT FUNDS TO REPLACE 35-YEAR-OLD TIDAL POOL

Coomba Park residents say they’re ‘ecstatic’ about Federal funds to rebuild the community’s tidal pool and create a boardwalk.

Federal Member for Lyne Dr David Gillespie joined community members at Coomba Park to toast the announcement of $200,000 in Federal funding to rebuild the tidal pool supports and get work underway on a new walkway.

Dr Gillespie said there had been community concern the 35-year-old structures wouldn’t last the distance.

“I’ve been listening to residents on this issue, as has MidCoast Council, and it’s great to be announcing this funding which will bring so much enjoyment to the community,” Dr Gillespie said.

“I’m commending the dedication of local volunteers who have been maintaining the pool. This is a community that works together and it’s a pleasure to be offering support.”

Tidal Pool Committee chairman John Coles said Coomba Park residents were responsible for fundraising and building the tidal pool themselves 35 years ago and had undertaken to complete the new boardwalk, once the project was underway.

“This is the go-to place for kids, especially in the warmer weather,” Mr Coles said.

“The grant from David is like a present from heaven and the Coomba Park community will be forever grateful,” Mr Coles said.

MidCoast Council is planning to start work on the tidal pool in the new year.
