Federal Member for Lyne Dr David Gillespie will today visit the Forster Civic Precinct and receive a works update following the recommencement of work this week.

Dr Gillespie said the Covid-19 pandemic has caused health and economic disaster across the globe and Australia’s housing and construction sector was no different.

Construction 'on brink of collapse', says John Holland CEO. Financial Review 18/3/20

“We have seen large tier 1 construction companies under huge financial strain during Australia’s biggest infrastructure boom, local developers and projects were not immune.”

Solaris developments Coyne Graham said “after one of our workers tested positive to Covid, we stopped construction. that Covid diagnosis stressed the importance to us to limit the risk to the greater Forster community.

“We were bringing workers from Sydney to our town and at the time Sydney was experiencing the fallout of the Ruby Princess crisis and we were learning how quickly the virus was spreading.”

“Our supporters in the project are heavily invested in the stock markets, hotel, retail and commercial property markets. And of course, please remember our business is the retirement industry. Covid 19 had single handed STOPPED us all,” Mr Graham said.

Dr Gillespie said this week’s Housing Industry Association (HIA) New Home Sales Report for November 2020 shows HomeBuilder is continuing to deliver on its objective of generating residential construction demand to protect tradies’ jobs and drive our comeback from the COVID-19 recession.

The strength of New Home Sales is a positive sign that home building will support the broader economy as we enter 2021. This has led to a significant amount of interest in Forster’s residential property market.

Flexible working from home arrangements and a change in attitude about big city living has led to a significant amount of interest in Forster’s residential property market.

Welcome the Solaris Residential Tower. The rear tower on the Solaris site was chosen as the best tower to release to the Residential property market.

There were many reasons to select this tower but one of the most significant being that we would complete all the works in the immediate vicinity of the MidCoast Council Civic Precinct.

Mr Graham said by Council allowing us the time to consider the best options for the Solaris project advancement, they have ensured that all works in this area will be completed by September 2022.

Their Civic space will be completed by December 2021 with the residential tower being completed the following September.

“Council’s patience has provided the clarity to find the best solution to ensure the continued viability of the project and to ensure that all key elements to it, Civic Space, retail space, retirement space and short stay accommodation options are completed,” Mr Graham said.

“We have engaged the Professionals Forster, for the release of the Solaris residential tower which will occur on 28 December 2020. It will comprise 53 strata titled units plus 3 penthouse apartments.”

Dr Gillespie said all trades groups will back to the project on 18 January 2021.
