SURF’S UP! $6.3 MILLION FACELIFT FOR FORSTER MAIN BEACH AND SURF CLUB
Forster’s historic Main Beach foreshore is set for a $6.3 million facelift after the Federal Government today announced $3.159 million to help upgrade the 50-year-old Forster Surf Life Saving Clubhouse.
Federal Member for Lyne Dr David Gillespie said the new clubhouse would be the cornerstone of the Forster Main Beach foreshore redevelopment.
“Forster’s growth phase means more people will be living in and around the civic precinct and the Federal Nationals in Government are strongly backing this plan for growth,” Dr Gillespie said.
“As we all know, Forster Main Beach is an absolute jewel, but it’s in need of a polish.
“I’ve been listening to members of the Surf Club and the broader community about improving the amenity around the foreshore, bringing back the sparkle, and this Federal funding will allow the planned building program to be completed all in one go.”
Long serving Forster SLSC President and volunteer surf patroller for 23 years, John Quinn, said the new building would serve the needs of the community for the next 50 years.
“A big thanks to David Gillespie for securing this funding for us. The existing building leaks and is no longer fit-for-purpose. We’ll be living out of containers while it’s demolished, and then we’ll have a great new community facility,” Mr Quinn said.
Under Round 5 of the BBRF, the Federal Coalition Government has committed almost $300 million to support 295 projects across regional Australia, which will create an estimated 9,900 jobs during the project period.
This latest funding round takes total support through the BBRF to $1.38 billion across nearly 1,300 projects.
“Our Government is committed to delivering the best outcomes for our regional communities, which is why we are providing local businesses and community groups with opportunities like these to get ahead,” Dr Gillespie said.
