MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR FEDERAL FUNDING BOOST FOR LOCAL COUNCILS TO TACKLE PRIORITY PROJECTS

The Federal Coalition Government has announced a major funding boost for local councils to tackle priority projects, in the wake of recent severe storms and the ongoing impacts of the pandemic.

The Federal Government will bring forward the 2022-23 Financial Assistance Grants payment for local councils, to be paid before the end of this month (April 2022).

Federal Member for Lyne Dr David Gillespie said the payments would allow local councils to target infrastructure priorities.

“There’s been a cumulative impact on our local council budgets from the recent weather events and from COVID-19,” Dr Gillespie said.

“The Financial Assistance Grant payment is untied in the hands of local government, allowing councils to spend the money according to local priorities.

“I want to acknowledge the hard work of council officials – with support from our Government – in dealing with natural disasters and their aftermath at a local community level.”
