$2.04-MILLION IN FURTHER FEDERAL FUNDING FOR LOCAL FLOOD AND FIRE PROTECTION PROJECTS
Federal Member for Lyne Dr David Gillespie has announced $2.04-million in further Federal funding for local flood and fire protection projects.
Dr Gillespie visited Club North Haven on Wednesday to announce $330,000 in Federal funding under the Preparing Australian Communities Program - Local stream, to replace the Clubhouse roof and guttering, and install air conditioning and solar panels.
“Club North Haven is a key community evacuation centre and gathering place for the Camden Haven,” Dr Gillespie said.
“This funding will deliver important disaster protection and energy efficiency upgrades in the wake of the March 2021 flooding, which highlighted the poor state of repair of the roof and guttering.
“I’m pleased to be announcing funding for seven major projects across the region – ranging from capital works upgrades to community awareness programs about natural disaster preparedness.

Club North Haven - new roofing, guttering, air conditioning and solar panels $329,943
Club Old Bar - new roofing, air conditioning, solar panels, relocatable building, kitchen & bathroom upgrades, relocating bowls’ room outside, new playground $689,892
Laurieton United Services Club – new flood defence system $410,138
MidCoast Council – employing community education officer to work with at-risk community groups to raise awareness of disaster preparedness $296,289
Billabong Zoo – new fire protection sprinkler system around entire perimeter of the zoo $28,760
Port Stephens Council – Strategic Fire Management Plans and subsequent reduction burns in four regional reserves: Stoney Ridge Reserve, Port Stephens Drive, Rookes Point Reserve, Mambo Wetlands Reserve $100,000
Port Macquarie-Hastings Meals on Wheels emergency preparedness toolkit for older residents $187, 779

The Preparing Australian Communities Program – Local stream is the first tranche of the Preparing Australia Program, an investment by the Federal Coalition Government of $600 million over six years to build the nation’s resilience to natural disasters.
