Upgrades to Laurieton Sports Complex and Lake Cathie Foreshore Reserve have been completed in time for the easing of lockdowns.

Federal Member for Lyne Dr David Gillespie MP visited the locations on Wednesday - which have received Federal funding for improvements - with Port Macquarie Hastings Council Mayor Peta Pinson and community members.

·         New multi-purpose courts at Laurieton Sports Complex for netball and basketball. The Federal Government has contributed $105,000 and Council $115,000.

·         An accessible walkway, picnic facilities and a shade structure at Lake Cathie Foreshore Reserve. The Federal Government has contributed $280,000.

Dr Gillespie said the Federal Coalition Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program was improving recreation facilities in regional centres to bring communities together.

“Residents around the Camden Haven are going to benefit from these upgrades to public facilities. Great to see local netballers here today who are going to be able to use these all-weather courts now that sport is coming back and lockdowns are lifting,” Dr Gillespie said.

“We’ve also improved the Lake Cathie Foreshore with nearly $300,000 in Federal funding and that’s to encourage more people to get out and enjoy the beautiful picnic spots we have around the Camden Haven.”

Mayor Pinson said both projects were important for the community’s health and wellbeing.

“I’m delighted to see improved recreation and sporting facilities for our community members,” she said.

“Our recreation spaces help us connect and socialise and become a healthier, more active, and more vibrant place. We’re grateful to the Federal Government for the opportunity to improve our spaces and support our community.”
